Education
The Division of Hematology participates in the education of medical students, residents and fellows, as well as practicing physicians to keep them up-to-date with regards to the latest treatments and techniques in the Hematology field.
Second-year medical students take an organ systems course which includes numerous Hematology lectures (INTMD 7080), covering the origin of blood cells, hemostasis, anemias, lymphomas and specific blood-related disorders. Aside from lectures, students participate in small group discussions with physicians examining specific case examples the physician may encounter.
Fourth-year medical students may take an elective, Clinical Diagnosis & Management by Laboratory Methods (PATH 7140), which includes three Hematology lectures covering diagnosis and treatment of blood-related disorders.
Fellows may apply to our Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, which offers either a two-year (clinical) certification in Hematology or Oncology and a three-year (academic) certification in both Hematology and Oncology.
The Division of Hematology continues to host clinical and research symposia, as well as sponsor guest lecturers to keep the community updated on the latest information in the field of hematology.
