Curriculum Objectives and Disclosures

The objectives of the education curriculum are as follows:

A. To impart pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of important Otolaryngology – Head and Neck conditions

B. To provide information on new or important fields related to Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery

C. To provide housestaff, fellows and medical students with basic and advanced concepts for approaching and solving Otolaryngology – Head and Neck conditions.

D. To provide housestaff, fellows and medical students an introduction to areas of research and the foundation to critically evaluate basic and clinical data.

 

Accreditation: The University of Utah School of Medicine CME is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation: The University of Utah Continuing Medical Education (UUCME) certifies activities for American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award (AMA PRA) 1 category 1 credit per session. The UUCME office is committed to ensure the compliance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (AACME).

Faculty Disclosure: The University of Utah adheres to ACCME Standards regarding industry support of continuing medical education, and disclosure of faculty and commercial sponsor relationships (if any) will be made known at the activity. Everyone who is in a position to control the content of an education activity including speakers, and education committee members are expected to openly disclose inclusion of discussion of any experimental, or investigational use of drugs, devices, or equipment. The content is expected to be valid, reliable and accurate. The members of the education committee are not influenced by any commercial interest. Any conflicts of interest will be reviewed by the education committee in the Division of Otolaryngology. The policy of the Division of Otolaryngology is to resolve any conflict of interest prior to any presentation. This curriculum is expected to be free of promotional, commercial and/or sales activities or influence. Any individual who refuses to disclose relevant financial relationships will be disqualified from the educational curriculum.

Expenditures for an individual providing CME: The education committee will review any honoraria and reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses for any presenters. The Division of Otolaryngology will pay directly any presenter honoraria or reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses in compliance with divisional policy.
