Fellowships

Larry Kraiss, M.D.

About Us

The Division of Vascular Surgery consists of four faculty members, two vascular Fellows, two mid-level practitioners, and a junior general surgery resident. The two Fellows (one in a first year of training, one in a second year of training) alternate daily "on call" duties and share these "on call" duties with one attending faculty member. Night call is taken from home and is occasionally shared with senior General Surgery Residents. Since 2004, Fellows' work responsibilities rarely exceeded 80 hours per week.

Teamwork and collegiality are high priorities for us. Working relationships among our faculty, Fellows, residents and staff reflect this commitment. We call each other by our first names. We cheer successes and share burdens. We work closely and collegially with several other groups especially Cardiology, General Medicine, Nephrology, Interventional Radiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Research

Opportunities for clinical research abound and we expect Fellows to participate. Recent projects include:

  • cardiovascular risk factor identification and management
  • EEG monitoring during carotid endarterectomy
  • platelet analysis under various surgical interventions
  • pediatric vascular surgery outcomes
  • ruptured aneurysms
  • medical devices and investigational drug products research

Training

Fellows are expected to attend and contribute to vascular conferences, journal club, Grand Rounds, and related training opportunities.

For those Fellows who are also interested in pursuing a career in academic vascular surgery, we can arrange additional years of research training and immersion in basic and clinical research projects.

Thank you for your interest in the program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
