RESIDENCY TRAINING

The General Surgery Program at the University of Utah has an established track record in the production of future surgical leaders as well as fully-capable surgeons prepared to serve the public in private practice. The graduates of this program are a group of men and women who share a passion for surgery exemplified by discipline, curiosity and energy. I feel that regardless of your ultimate ambition in surgery, whether it be research, administration or teaching, you will need to develop habits of observation, self-education, tolerance and humanism.

Our training program produces clinical excellence by supporting family and personal growth, by promoting habits of self-education, by demanding honesty and by honoring civic responsibility. We achieve these goals through regularly scheduled time-off, a liberal leave policy, a broadly based and balanced experience in surgery, an encouragement of physical activity and an appreciation of the role played by the liberal arts in the refinement of the surgeon. We use four different hospitals to provide balance in case mix and responsibility. Most important for your education, Utah Surgery Residents comprise a group of mutually-supportive, high-energy individuals who set high standards for themselves and their peers. If you are interested in challenging yourself to develop into a superb surgeon in an incomparable geophysical environment, you should carefully consider the University of Utah.

Thank you for your interest.
