Urology Residency Overview

The residency program in Urology provides comprehensive training in all aspects of this diverse field with extensive hands-on surgical experience, the development of clinical decision-making and exploration of and participation in the frontiers of research. The University Hospitaldevelopment of high ethical standards in the practice of urology is also central in our training program.

The activities of the Urology Division are aimed to deliver professional, high quality patient care in a courteous and compassionate manner; to encourage an environment which will stimulate acquisition of knowledge by all staff members, residents, medical students and referring physicians; and to perform research which will extend the horizons of our understanding and enable us to become better physicians.   A hallmark of our program is being able to accomplish these goals in a pleasant, encouraging, and mutually enjoyable atmosphere.

In 2006, the University of Utah Urology residency program was reaccredited for a five-year period (the maximum).  We received approval for our current resident complement of two residents per year.  Training is comprised of a preliminary year of general surgery followed by four years of urology.   Residents receive extensive operative and clinic experience at an excellent combination of hospitals:Primary Children's Medical Center

This combination of facilities provides optimal exposure to the full breadth of urologic disorders and each runs a busy clinical service. Our anchor hospital, the University Hospital, is a 430-bed tertiary care regional referral hospital for five intermountain states. The University clinics offer excellent and diverse patient care, providing over 600,000 patient visits per year.

We appreciate your interest in our program and hope you enjoy our website.
